Gift Card

Built-in gift card support — customers can buy for themselves or send to someone else with a personal message and scheduled delivery date.

The theme includes full built-in support for Shopify gift cards. Customers can buy a gift card for themselves to use at checkout, or send one directly to someone else with a personal message and a scheduled delivery date. Once purchased, the recipient gets their own gift card page showing the code, the balance, and a QR code they can scan at checkout.

Setting Up a Gift Card Product

Before anything shows up on your store, you need to create a gift card product in your Shopify Admin. The theme reads this product automatically — there are no extra theme settings to configure for the gift card product page itself.

  1. Go to Shopify AdminProducts.
  2. Click Add product.
  3. Under the product type, select Gift card — this is a special product type in Shopify.
  4. Set the title, description, and images as you would any other product.
  5. Add variants for each denomination you want to offer — for example $10, $50, $100, $300.
  6. Save the product and make sure it is set to Active.

Shopify handles all the gift card balance tracking, delivery, and redemption. The theme simply displays the product and the gift card details page in a way that matches your store's design.

The Gift Card Product Page

When a customer visits the gift card product page, it looks and works like any other product page in the theme. The main difference is that it includes an optional recipient form for sending the card as a gift. The gift card variants appear as selectable options — for example $10.00, $50.00, $100.00, and $300.00.

Buying for Yourself: If the customer just wants a gift card for their own use, they skip the recipient form entirely. They choose a denomination, set the quantity, and add to cart or buy now. After checkout, Shopify sends the gift card code to their own email.

Sending as a Gift

  • To send the gift card to someone else, the customer ticks the "I want to send this as a gift" checkbox. This expands a form with the following fields.
  • Recipient Email: Required. The email address the gift card will be delivered to. The form will not allow checkout without a valid email address entered here.
  • Recipient Name: Optional. The name of the person receiving the gift card.
  • Message: Optional. A personal message included with the gift card delivery. Limited to 200 characters.
  • Send On: Optional. A date picker that lets the customer schedule when the gift card is delivered. If left blank, it is sent immediately after purchase.

The Gift Card Redemption Page

After a gift card is purchased and delivered, the recipient receives an email from Shopify with a link to their personal gift card page. This page is styled to match your store.

What the Recipient Sees

  • Store logo: Your store's logo or name appears in the top left of the card header.
  • QR code: A scannable QR code is displayed at the top of the card. Customers can scan this directly at checkout on compatible devices.
  • Gift card name: The name of the gift card product is shown below the QR code.
  • Current balance: The remaining balance on the card is shown prominently and updates every time the card is used.
  • Expiry notice: If the gift card has an expiry date, a badge shows when it expires. If it has already expired or been disabled, a badge shows that too.
  • Gift card code: The unique gift card code is displayed inside a dashed box. Customers can select and copy it manually.
  • Copy Code button: A one-click button that copies the code to the clipboard. The button briefly changes to "Copied!" to confirm the action.
  • Visit store link: A link at the bottom takes the recipient directly to your store to start shopping.

Customers apply a gift card code at Shopify's checkout page by entering it in the gift card or discount code field. If the order total is higher than the gift card balance, the customer pays the difference with another payment method. If the balance is higher than the order total, the remaining amount stays on the card for future use.

Best Practices

Do

  • Add a clear, attractive image to your gift card product — it appears on the product page and is the first thing customers see.
  • Offer a range of denominations so customers can choose an amount that suits them. Common options are a low, mid, and high value.
  • Test the gifting flow yourself before publishing — buy a gift card, send it to your own email, and confirm the recipient page looks correct.
  • Keep your gift card product title short and descriptive, such as "Store Gift Card" or "Premium Gift Card", since the title appears on the recipient's gift card page.

Don't

  • Set a gift card product as a Draft — customers will not be able to find or purchase it.
  • Add the gift card to a collection that also contains regular products if you want to keep the shopping experience clean. Consider a separate "Gift Cards" collection.
  • Worry about the recipient form fields being submitted empty — Name, Message, and Send On are all optional. Only the Recipient Email is required when the "send as a gift" checkbox is ticked.
