Password Page

A fully branded page for visitors when your store is password protected — with an email waitlist signup, a password entry modal, and editable headings and button labels.

The Password Page is what visitors see when your store is password protected — typically when your store is still under development or has not yet launched. Instead of showing a blank screen or a generic Shopify lock page, this theme gives you a fully branded page where visitors can sign up to be notified when you open, and where you or your team can enter a password to access the store.

How to Enable Password Protection

The password itself is not set inside the Theme Editor. To turn password protection on and set the password, go to Shopify AdminOnline StorePreferences and scroll to the Password protection section. Enable it there and set your password. Once that is done, the theme's Password Page will show automatically for all visitors.

Section Settings

Main Page Content

  • Color Scheme: Sets the background and text colors for the password page. Pick a scheme that matches your brand.
  • Heading: The large text displayed at the center of the page. Use something that sets the right tone — for example "Opening soon!" or "We're getting ready". If you have set a password message in Shopify Admin under Online Store → Preferences, that message will show here instead.
  • Subheading: A shorter line of supporting text shown below the heading — for example "Be the first one to know when we open!" or "Sign up below and we will let you know the moment we go live."
  • Subscribe Button Label: The text on the button next to the email input field. Default: "Subscribe".

Email Subscription

The center of the page shows an email input field and a subscribe button. Visitors can enter their email address to be notified when the store opens. When they submit their email, Shopify saves it as a newsletter subscriber and shows a confirmation message in place of the form. You can view these subscribers in your Shopify Admin under Customers.

Header Button and Password Modal

  • Header Button Label: The text of the button in the top right corner of the page that opens the password entry panel. Default: "Enter storefront password".
  • Password Modal Button Label: The text of the button inside the password panel next to the input field. Default: "Enter".

When the correct password is entered, the store opens normally. If the wrong password is entered, an error message appears below the input field and the panel stays open for another attempt.

Best Practices

Do

  • Set a clear, friendly heading that tells visitors the store is coming soon — leaving them guessing creates a poor first impression.
  • Use the subheading to encourage email sign-ups. The email list you build on the password page is valuable for your launch announcement.
  • Keep your storefront password private — only share it with people who genuinely need access, such as team members or a client reviewing the build.
  • Test the email subscription form before your launch to make sure sign-ups are coming through to your Customers list in Shopify Admin.

Don't

  • Forget to disable password protection before launching — go to Shopify Admin → Online Store → Preferences and turn it off when you are ready to go live.
  • Leave the heading as the default if your store has a specific name or theme — a personalised message feels much more intentional.
  • Use the storefront password as your Shopify Admin password — they are separate and should be kept that way.
